The most beautiful woman in the world…

…this year. 🙂

I feel it fitting to end my long hiatus from blogging with a lovely post such as this. I congratulate the drop-dead gorgeous, Megan Young for bringing home the Miss World 2013 crown, which was a major source of pride and joy to the country that is stricken with war, corruption and natural disasters in the recent months. Janet Napoles must be very grateful. Megan dear, this post is all yours.

Despite the presence of negative people who will always find something hideous even in the most wonderful of things and circumstances, it cannot be denied how beautiful you are. Bless are the souls who keep on stirring old and lame issues of religion and skin colors. You folks are so boring. Keep calm and smell the flowers, shall we?Or play with your dogs, if that makes you feel better.

The teenage Megan Young.

LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!

Singapore on my birthday!!!

Singapore from my window.

Singapore from my window.

I was so lucky to spend my birthday with my friends. I swapped one of my flights with a Singapore-Melbourne flight and it made me as happy as a bumblebee. Just when I thought it was all going super, this awful Greek colleague ruined it for me. He was the most awful person that I met on my birthday and the fakest smile that I have seen in my lifetime!!!! He deserved the oral herpes that he got after one night in Singapore. Yuck!!! Bless him!!! I hope I will never see him again.

Done with the bad part, now with the good stuff.

First day of the layover. I met two friends that I haven’t seen for the longest time. The last time I saw them, they were still single and child free. Now, they are both married and parents too. By the way, they are not married to each other, just to be clear about it. 😉

Waiting for Raissa in my hotel room. She is taking so long.

Here she is! She looks exactly the same as ten years ago. The greatest advantage of being Asian. 🙂

You see, when you are in doubt of what to eat and where to eat in Singapore, just go to No Signboard restaurant in Vivo City Mall and they will make your tummy very happy. So I took Raissa and Jor-el to No Signboard. Not a surprise, it was my husband who lead me here.

Here is an explanation as for how the peculiar name came to be.

Here are some of our orders. Of course I had to order the Singaporean chilli crab for them. We had the Sri Lankan crab, the cheapest one I guess. But it was enough for us. The other crabs such as the Alaskan one would have been too much. Those pieces of bread called the mantou (mantaw) bread have to be ordered with the chilli crab. They were like sugar glazed bread and perfect for dipping in the chilli crab sauce.

Breakfast could not get any more Singaporean than this. Went to the Food court in Raffles City Mall. It was the most convenient place since I stayed just across the road.

I spent around six SGD only for this breakfast.

I spent around six SGD only for this breakfast.

The one on the left is a set of the traditional Kaya toast. Kaya is basically a coconut jam made from coconut, milk, eggs and flavored with pandan leaf. And it tastes delicious with a capital D. I often bring home a jar to Dubai. They make it by placing two chunks of butter on the toast and then spreading a generous portion of kaya on top. The bread is then dipped on a very runny boiled egg. The traditional partner of this breakfast is the milk tea with a pool of condensed milk at the bottom of the cup. 🙂

The one on the right is just chunky peanut butter spread.

Meanwhile, back at my work station.

Second day of layover. Destination: Melbourne.

I got sick. Bummer!

I had a lovely dinner on my own. Sorry, cousin Raymund.

I was feeling Japanese for the night, thus the eye makeup.

For a spotless application of the winged eyeshadow, I utilize the help of a stencil, a tape or my credit card.

Table for one at the hotel. Anywhere I eat in Australia is expensive so might as well dine at the hotel with my discount.

So unladylike of me, I finished everything, including half of a bottle of red. Happy birthday to me. Yey, said my lonely heart.

We had very late dinner at Spize. in this restaurant, dinner is served by the sidewalks. They only open after all the sidewalk shops are closed. Our seats were just a finger away from passing cars.

Those were a main course of omelette that was pregnant with lots of meat and a paratha dessert with ice cream on the top.

My birthday was almost complete—now, to the tequila shots! Found this bar beside Carlton Hotel called the Embassy bar. Entrance was free for ladies so we went. Now, welcome to Singapore and its 50 shades of crazy.

FYI, prostitution is a legal profession in this crazy part of the world.

We entered to this club that looked like a prison. Imagine this, a little smaller, with bright lights, a stage in the middle with Korean-looking girls complete with the big bows and fringe and a cutesy peace sign dancing and looking cute onstage. Those who got sold wore the price tag like a beauty queen stash. Drinks were sold by the bottle so if you don’t have money and you are not a girl, don’t go there.

Royce and Singapore.

My ombre nails are ready to see my husband in Singapore tomorrow. Just like the good times, we will be “rendezvous-ing” in Singapore. I just committed a crime right there for “verb-ing” a noun. Wait, make it two crimes. But it feels right at this moment so I am sticking my tongue out at you! 😛

942190_10200483754069133_2028515824_n

That’s a nasty pair of lady’s feet. That’s what happens when you work for six years with closed high-heeled shoes on. 😦

Moving on, I will be taking home with me my favorite chocolates in the world—NAMA!!! For me, Royce and Singapore have almost become synonymous. I cannot be in Singapore without buying a few boxes of Nama (Royce) chocolates for take-home.

royce

NAMA is a very exquisite chocolate brand from Japan that tastes like no other. It melts in your tongue and you get that explosion of velvety chocolate, and then it is over before you know it. Because it is very sensitive to the body temperature, it doesn’t even get to your throat. But there will be no disappointments. It will only leave you asking for more.

I have tasted a few brands of expensive gourmet chocolates like Godiva, but Royce is a league of its own. One has to try it to know what it is all about.

This is one weird combination but very tasty.

This is one weird combination but very tasty.

So I would like to give away a Nama chocolate box and another pack of Nama chocolate-coated chips to a lucky reader somewhere out there who will say hi to me at the comment space below. I have never given anything away for readers (let me pretend that I have readers other than my school friends and my husband), I would like to try it for the first time. This is my No. 1 favorite chocolate in the entire universe so this giveaway is personal to me. Since I will be in the Philippines next month, I will be handing this over to the winner in person.

This chocolate is very hard to ship because it melts easily. It even comes with its own cooling gel pack. So this is only open to anybody in Manila or Dipolog, friends or not. Leave your name, then come back after a week, which would be the 8th of May, on a Wednesday. My husband will pick the winner because he will be buying it for me ( he does not know it yet). 😉

To Royce fans in the Philippines, it is wonderful news to us all that there are several stores now in the Philippines that sells Nama chocolates. That is a lot of stores of Nama. For about P550 a box, the Philippine economy must be doing fine.

Following Maricel.

What a stunning photograph of the London sunset by an old friend, Maricel. This makes me look forward to another trip to the land of my most beloved royal goddess, the Duchess Catherine of Cambridge. I should write a fashion post about her because I just love this woman like fat-free marshmallows!

IMG_2276

I had enough of the city’s touristy pit stops. All of them are worth visiting, though. And like I did, you might just walk in on two girls in one toilet cubicle with one of them bending over the sink with her bum exposed. Hmmm… And I have a bag too many of London key chains, fridge magnets, snow globes and what-nots.

Next time is the time for shopping. Not anymore at Primark, woman!

There goes the Primark queen, circa 2000.

I have my eyes fixed on London’s reigning best vintage thrift store. What you will find in thrifts stores might surprise you in a nice way. My best find so far is a pre-loved pink Gucci bag from a Sunday market in Zurich. 🙂

Jane Austen’s turquoise ring.

For over a year now, I have developed this secret love affair for colored gemstones. Diamonds are always pretty but colored gems can not only match with the color of your outfit or highlight the ocean in your eyes, but they also give the wearer a distinct personality. The turquoise gemstone is my personal favorite because of its opacity. Quite on the right timing, Jane Austen’s turquoise ring was sold at an auction today for a massive £152, 450. The bidding was won by the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson.

What a beauty!

IMG_2272

Jane-Austen-ring

Sold together with the ring was a handwritten note by Jane Austen’s sister-in-law, Eleanor. The note, dated 1863, reads:

“My dear Caroline,” Eleanor wrote. “The enclosed ring once belonged to your Aunt Jane. It was given to me by your Aunt Cassandra as soon as she knew that I was engaged to your uncle. I bequeath it to you. God bless you!”

SAG Awards Night

I almost never post any awards night review about red carpet dresses, but seeing “Dr. Sheldon Lee Cooper” looking oh-so-dashing and adorable got me very inspired.

He wore a Tweed three-piece suit and a black bow-tie and a smoldering pout with a bashful half-smile that Sheldon Cooper is very well-known for.

160206842-jpg_032550 (1)

The use of unconventional materials for the suits seemed to be a fashionable trend among the gents. Justin Timberlake was officially making his sexy comeback in a plaid three-piece suit and a pretty boy hair.

160207216-jpg_024630 (1)

Les Miserables’ Eddie Redmayne did not disappoint in a risque velvet number either. Though, the side stitches along his pants looked like they were about to rip.

160205226-jpg_235809

This was definitely a hot man trend alert on the red carpet–facial hair in all its glory. The gruffier, the better, I suppose. Ben Affleck looked like he had not aged a day since I had fallen in love with him in Armageddon. And that was 14 years ago.

160206921-jpg_014756

Now, let us take a look at the women. I did not really find a “wow” gown this time. They must have used all their best dresses during the Oscars or at Cannes.

For an unlikely choice, Tina Fey looked the most put together. The hair and the makeup made her look very healthy and cheerful. The accessories were as classy as her dress and they really complemented the whole outfit. I particularly loved her metallic belt. Metal on black looked like a very excellent choice. Isn’t that hair just perfect?

160206816-jpg_014732

The old Hollywood glamour was a hot pick for the hair that evening, most especially the side-swept style in big curls. This woman looked really stunning in a black gown with playful cutouts and silhouettes. Again, note the gold and platinum metals for her accessories.

160205901-jpg_032553

I cannot sufficiently explain why I love this gown on her. I guess this looked rather fresh among the ocean of complicated designs and long trains of silks and tulle. This looked simple, very feminine, age-appropriate, fitted her perfectly, and most importantly, she looked very happy wearing it. Her hairstyle was very neat. And those shoes, women just love it when they are strappy and they sparkle at the same time.

160207368-jpg_032657

My dear Anne, I promise not to talk about this gown as long as you eat a little bit more. I will always love you.

160207348-jpg_024651

I have heard that Jennifer Lawrence tripped over when her gown got stuck on a chair. I knew that huge bundle of a train spelled trouble from the moment I saw it.

Speaking of beautiful clothes, my cousin-in-law has a lovely collection in her online clothing store. She just got invited by UsTrendy to be featured in their website. Good job! It’s a delightful knowledge that I am surrounded with people that can be my daily source of inspiration.

Here are some of the pieces from her store that I just love to bits. To the young, fun, flirty and fabulous females, cheers!
